Deceased Skier's Name Released To Northland College Students
Northland College students learned that their friend and fellow classmate passed away this weekend as a result of being hit by a vehicle while skiing on frozen Chequamegon Bay.
In an email to the college community, Northland College President Michael Miller informed all faculty members, staff members, and students that Spring 2010 Northland College graduate Bjorn Norgaard will be remembered at a prayer service tonight at the college.
Throughout the week Northland College will allow its Chapel to be available for the college community to use as a resource for prayer and meditation. Counseling services will be offered through the college's Student Life Department and through the college's Campus Minister David Saetre.
Miller said he was "deeply saddened" to inform the campus of Norgaard's death.
"Many of us remember Bjorn’s compassion for others, involvement in the campus and greater community, and true enjoyment of life," Miller wrote. "His tragic death comes too early."
A representative of the college has called Norgaard's parents to offer collective conodolences on the part of the college.
"Remember Bjorn’s family in your thoughts and prayers, and please remember in this difficult time to share your compassion with our fellow members of the Northland College community," Miller wrote.
The Ashland Current will share more information about the incident itself as it becomes available from the Bayfield County Sheriff's Department.
