Former Green Bay Packer kicker Chester Marcol will be in Ashland this month to read and sign copies of his new autobiography.

Marcol will appear at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Ashland at 6 p.m. on Mon., Nov. 28 to read and sign copies of his new book, Alive and Kicking: My Journey through Football, Addiction and Life.

Marcol was a Polish immigrant who spoke no English when he accidently discovered football as a high school student in Imlay City, Mich. By 1972, Marcol was a household name as an all-pro kicker for the Green Bay Packers. He went on to lead the NFL in scoring in two of his first three years, but instant success followed by an injury led to a downward spiral into alcohol and drugs.

In his autobiography, Alive and Kicking (KCI Sports Publishing, $24.95), Marcol recounts the hurdles he overcame to become a star in the NFL, and shares a no-holds-barred look at his alcohol and substance abuse, which eventually cost him his football career and his family. For the first time, Marcol discusses his1986 suicide attempt that continues to affect him and his health.

A member of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, Marcol lives in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where he works as a drug abuse counselor and fights his daily battle to stay clean and sober.

Alive and Kicking: My Journey Through Football, Addiction, and Life is available at bookstores throughout the area, online at www.kcisports.com or by calling 1-800-697-3756.
