Walker Addresses Mining During State Of The State Speech
Gov. Scott Walker spoke briefly about the region's proposed iron-ore mine during his State of the State speech Wednesday night.
He said the state could adopt legislation that would “streamline the process for safe and environmentally-sound mining” in Northern Wisconsin.
“Now it is time for us to move forward on a project that's not only about jobs, but also about the history of our badger state,” Walker said.
A State Assembly committee approved a proposed mining bill on Tuesday, and the full Assembly is expected to debate the bill on Thursday.
Walker spoke about mining for about 50 seconds during an address that lasted about 30 minutes.
