Ashland's Ochsenbauer Receives Service Award
Symetra, a national provider of employee benefits, annuities and life insurance, announced that Ashland's Angela Ochsenbauer is receiving the company's annual service award.
Ochsenbauer is receiving the company's 2011 CEO Service Award, which is presented to one Symetra employee each year for exemplary community service. Ochsenbauer works in Symetra's Select Benefits office in Ashland and was recognized for her countless volunteer hours helping those less fortunate.
As part of the award, Symetra donates $1,000 to the nonprofit of the winner's choice. Ochsenbauer is directing her award to the Ashland/Bayfield County Salvation Army.
"With her caring heart and giving spirit, Angela represents the best of Symetra," said CEO Tom Marra, who selected Ochsenbauer for the honor. "Symetra's 1,100 employees across the country join me in applauding Angela for her leadership in the community and her dedication to serving others. She inspires us all."
Twenty years ago, Ochsenbauer began volunteering as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign, raising funds for needy individuals, families and seniors during the holiday season. Since then, she has lent her time and talents to the Ashland/Bayfield County branch of the Salvation Army in many capacities, including as a board member. Ochsenbauer also volunteers with the Northwest Wisconsin Community Services Agency and the BRICK Ministries, both of which are committed to ending homelessness. She distributes groceries at the food shelf and works to raise awareness of homeless issues.
Ochsenbauer was nominated for the CEO Service Award by co-worker Dottie Mainguth, who wrote, "Angela has helped so many people over the years through her many hours of volunteer work. She never minds when she has to use her lunch time to help someone get a meal or motel voucher. She volunteers endlessly and joyfully."
