Freshly Squeezed: Begging Madison For Crumbs
The mining bill introduced in the state assembly last week is disturbing stuff. One of the biggest concerns is a provision reducing by 50 percent the amount of tax revenue given to local municipalities from mining operations. Instead, that money would go to the state's general fund. And yet, some pro-mining advocates say this 50 percent cut is "better than nothing." That's sad.
