  • Co-authors, Deb Lewis and Pat Ondarko, of Ashland, have collaborated to pen another of their classic “cozy” regional mysteries.

  • To show appreciation for those who serve in the U.S. Military, on May 19 – Armed Forces Day – the National Park Service and other U.S. agencies will begin issuing an annual pass offering free entrance to more than 2,000 national parks, wildlife refuges, national forests, and other public lands around the nation in the coming years.

  • More than 80 graduates will take part in Northland College’s 101st Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 26. The event will be held outside the Kendrigan Gymnasium on the Northland College campus beginning at 2:30 p.m. In honor of the graduating seniors, a reception will immediately follow the ceremony outside the Craig A. Ponzio Campus Center.

  • Students who earned scholarships during the 2011-2012 academic year at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College Ashland Campus were recently honored by WITC staff and scholarship donors.

  • Join Big Top Chautauqua board, staff, friends and volunteers this Saturday, May 19, to help pitch the 160’ x 70’, 900-seat, 2,000 pound all-canvas tent for the upcoming 2012 season of music making, story telling, lectures, and star gazing.

  • Due to the recent resignation of Ashland Ward 2 City Councilor Bill Schneeberger from the council, the city is asking for residents to consider taking his spot.

    Mary Garness, the Ashland City clerk, is accepting letters of interest from residents of Ward 2 who would like to be considered to fill Schneeberger's vacancy.

  • This triptych of apple trees in bloom was submitted to the Ashland Current by Hannah Stonehouse Hudson of Stonehouse Photography.  Hudson spent time at the Erickson's Orchard of Bayfield on Sunday.

  • Bayfield was recently named a Tree City USA community on account of its commitment to urban forestry, according to a news release.

    This is the twelfth year that Bayfield has earned the national honor from the Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to planting trees.

  • Northland College will unveil a forestry program this fall for students interested in pursuing a Natural Resources major. In the past, students have been able to choose between programs that focus on ecological restoration or fisheries and wildlife ecology.
