Kirtland's Warbler Program
The Chequamegon Audubon Chapter is once again hosting a free program tonight at 7 p.m. at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center about Kirtland's Warblers.
Kirtland's Warblers are uncommon birds with a very specialized nesting habitat. Since the late1970s, a few of these birds have been identified in the jack pine regions of Wisconsin.
Joel Trick is a wildlife biologist with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), Green Bay Field Office, where he works primarily on endangered species recovery. His presentation will provide an overview of the Kirtland's Warbler in Wisconsin, including historical occurrences, its discovery as a nesting species, and the USFWS's work over the past 5 years documenting the distribution and nesting of the species in the state. Mr. Trick holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, and has worked in his current job for more than 20 years.
